We’re pleased to share that the 2025 Marulan Power Station Scoping Report has now been submitted to the NSW Government. This is a key step in progressing the project, and we invite you to read the report and stay informed about what comes next.
You can view the Scoping Report on the NSW Planning Portal site Major Projects | Planning Portal - Department of Planning and Environment or below.
What is a Scoping Report?
Unlike new projects that begin from scratch, the Marulan Power Station already has development approval (originally granted in 2015 and updated in 2024).
However, we are seeking to modify this approval to align the project with today’s environmental and energy standards.
The Scoping Report is the first step in this process. It outlines how we plan to investigate and assess the project under modern requirements. Once reviewed, the NSW Government will issue Scoping Advice, guiding the content of the full Modification Report and Environmental Impact Statement to be prepared over the next year.
What’s included in the Scoping Report?
The Scoping Report:
- Assesses potential design options, technologies, and operational methods
- Compares environmental, economic, and social impacts
- Summarises feedback received from the community and how we are responding
Next steps and ongoing engagement
While we await the Government’s Scoping Advice, we’re continuing technical and environmental studies, as well as ongoing engagement opportunities through the Community Reference Group, regular pop-up sessions at the Meridian Café, doorknocks along Canyonleigh Rd and a regular Community Newsletter.
